Q: “Tell me about the Fools that once were? What is their story? Any past pictures of? Good stories to share? How about Paul, Eddie, even Stray?”
A: Sorry for the slow response, but remember we are old guys and forgetful at best! Hell most days we can’t even tell you what we had for dinner last night! To go back 7 years is more brain work than we are used to, So if we missed anyone or got some of the dates wrong we apologize in advance!
We’ll just start at the beginning;
Fools Life was the dream of John Rhodes and Dan Milliron. We had been playing together for a few years in “The Lee Crosby Band”. After that ended we got bored in a hurry! So in early 2001 the journey began.
We started out practicing with Danny "Boom Boom" Damwijk on Drums and Danny’s neighbor Phil playing guitar. After a few practices, Phil decided this was not what he wanted to do. So we looked around and stumbled on Kyle “The Texas Kid”. When we call him Kid, we mean that literally, Kyle was underage for most of the places we played so we would have to “Sneak” him in. Kyle played with us for around a year and a half, give or take. Then he decided to go back to College in Texas.
Shortly after we started playing out, our friend, (and the guy that gave us our first break) asked us to check out John Smith, which we did. John ended up playing Keyboard and Rhythm guitar with us for nearly three years.
To fill the void Kyle left we talked to Bill Tarsha of The Rocket 88’s. Bill recommended James Johnson, who ended up being our guitar player for about a year and a half. James was a great Blues Guitarist but had to leave the band due to some personal issues.
Pauly V. came in and did an awesome job of filling the void left by James Johnson.
In early 2003 Danny decided he wanted to spend more time with his family and went into “semi-retirement”. He has sat in with us from time to time over the years.
Danny was replaced by “Steady Eddie” Simone
John Smith left the band around the end of 2003 and main our line up for the next couple of years was John, Dan, Pauly V. and Eddie.
At the beginning of 2006 Eddie got engaged and needed to focus on all the premarital stuff. Paul wanted to spend time with his family. And Bill Babin’s “Big Zepher” started playing. So we added Charlie “MD” Labbee on Guitar and “Bad” Bob Weir on Drums to our line up.
We did an acoustic act, “The Fools Unplugged” for a little over a year featuring John, Dan, Bob “Stray Dog” Goga and Greg “Snerd” James
Over the years, we have had many Friends and Guest sit in with us, or cover gigs when one of the regulars couldn’t make it. This list includes:
Craig Haley
Lee Crosby
Eddie Marrazzito
Kirk Hawley
John Smith
Charlie Labbee, (current member)
Bob “Stray Dog” Goga
Greg “Snerd” James
Bill Babin, (Bill helped us out more times than we can count, all while trying to get his own band, “Big Zepher”, going.)
And many others…
I am sure we missed a few, but as we said…were old guys!
Our current line up includes Charles Labbee on Guitar and Bob Weir on Drums.
